Médecins Sans Frontiéres

Médecins Sans Frontiéres (MSF) is an international humanitarian aid organisation that provides medical assistance to populations in danger in more than 80 countries.  In countries where health structures are insufficient or even non-existent, MSF collaborates with authorities such as the Ministry of Health to provide assistance.  MSF works in rehabilitation of hospitals and dispensaries, vaccination programmes and water and sanitation projects.  MSF also works in remote health centres and slum areas and provides training of local personnel.  All this is done with the objective of rebuilding health structures to acceptable levels. In order to speak and act with freedom, M.S.F. is completely independent of any political, religious or economic power.

M.S.F. is, however, about more than just medicine. The last thing they doctor is the truth. One of their central beliefs is the fundamental duty to speak out for their patients, raising awareness of inequality and oppression.

Oxfam

Oxfam believes that in a world rich in resources, poverty isn't just a fact of life but an injustice which must be overcome.  Oxfam believes that everyone is entitled to a life of dignity and opportunity; and work with communities, local partner organisations, volunteers, and supporters to help make this a reality.  People in Africa face poverty and suffering on a scale which is unimaginable to most of us.  To take just one statistic: 300 million Africans live on less than $1 a day.

Oxfam International is working in more than 80 countries to find lasting solutions to poverty, suffering and injustice.  Oxfam believes that poverty is a state of powerlessness which can be solved through popular action and political will.   To achieve the maximum impact on poverty, Oxfam link up their own development programmes, humanitarian response, lobbying for policy changes at national and global level.  Oxfam members have no religious or political affiliations.
